Is anyone else watching the grass turn crispy and yearning for fall to arrive? We know we are!
There’s something special about those first hints of cooler weather...the little whiffs of crisp air that remind us that summer won’t last forever. Before long, we’ll be trading scorching afternoons for football Friday nights, the Homecoming parade winding through our neighborhood, and all the wonderful fall activities that bring family, friends, and neighbors together.
And let’s not forget the changing leaves, pumpkins on the porches, cozy evenings outside, and all the holidays that make this time of year so much fun. There’s a lot to look forward to!
But first, we have to make it through just a little more Texas summer.
So hang in there, Anderson Mill! Keep watering when you can, stay hydrated, find some shade, and remember: fall is coming! We’ll be feeling those cooler breezes before we know it.
Until then, stay cool and enjoy these last days of summer. The best part of the year is just around the corner! Here is what’s going on in the neighborhood!
Yard of the Month - August 2026
💐Congratulations to Philip and Susan of 10608 Mourning Dove Drive!

Their front yard’s landscaping is intended to complement the flow and design of the house and Philip has selected plants that require low maintenance as well as not requiring a lot of irrigation. Low work and low water plants are great to have, especially during these super-hot August days! Philip likes amending the soil after planting and after newer plants are more established. He doesn’t typically spray pesticides and herbicides in the garden and likes planting native species that are appropriate for pollinators. Featured plants in their garden (that may actually bloom this time of year) include: cow pen daisy (Verbesina encelioides), Gregg’s mistflower (Conoclinium dissectum), Mexican oregano (Lippia graveolens), which is great for attracting hummingbirds, and pyramid flower (Melochia pyramidata). Philip also enjoys growing roses, including this beautiful yellow variety, and peaches!
If you walk by, besides flowers, you’ll also get to see a variety of leaf colors that are arranged to complement each other.
Millrun Park Tree Removal & Caring for Our Trees
Work to remove 43 diseased trees at Millrun Park is scheduled for August 20, 21, 24, and 25. Some of the trees being removed are diseased, while others in our area have been damaged by recent winter storms.
During the work, portions of the park will be temporarily closed, and visitors may experience noise, equipment, and other inconveniences associated with the tree removal. The playground and dog park will remain open and will not be impacted.
As we continue caring for the trees in our neighborhood, it’s important to remember that proper pruning is essential to tree health. When trees are pruned, cuts should be clean and properly treated with an appropriate tree-pruning sealer to help protect the exposed area from moisture, pests, and disease.
Healthy trees are an important part of what makes Anderson Mill such a beautiful place to live. Thank you for your patience during the Millrun Park work and for doing your part to help protect and preserve our neighborhood trees.

This special one-day sale will benefit the Westwood Warrior Band, helping provide students with opportunities, equipment, travel and music education.
Westwood has a long tradition of musical excellence. The school’s music program has earned statewide and national recognition, and 28 Westwood musicians were selected for Texas All-State ensembles in 2025, the highest number from any Texas high school that year! The Westwood band program continues that tradition under Director of Bands Brittany Dacy, who was named one of Yamaha’s 2026 “40 Under 40” outstanding music educators nationwide.

📖The Westwood High School Library is collecting donations for the 2026–2027 school year, and our community can help! If you have any of the following items to donate, please drop them off at the school’s front office:
- New or gently used baking pans and cake tins
- New or gently used cookie cutters
- Seeds for the library’s seed library
- New or gently used, school-appropriate records
- Used Barbies; they do not need to be in good condition!
These donations will help provide students with fun, creative, and educational resources throughout the school year. Consider cleaning out a cabinet, closet, or shelf and donating items you no longer need. Every contribution helps!
Let’s support our local high school and help make the Westwood Library a great resource for students.
Grisham Middle School News
Congratulations to the Grisham Band!
🎷Congratulations to the Grisham Middle School Honor Band on being selected to perform at the prestigious Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) in Seattle this November!
This invitation is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the students’ hard work, dedication, and outstanding musicality. Band Director Mason England shared that the achievement would not be possible without the support of the Grisham community, including the private lesson staff, clinicians, administration, and vertical learning community.
Founded nearly 50 years ago, WIBC brings together outstanding music educators and students from around the world for a unique opportunity to learn, perform, and connect. This will be the second time the Grisham Honor Band has been invited to perform at WIBC—an incredible accomplishment!
We are proud to celebrate the talented students and directors of the Grisham Band. Congratulations, Grisham! We can’t wait to hear you represent our community in Seattle!
